Quartzite

This began as sand, compacted into sandstone, then subjected to the kind of heat and pressure near Bahia, Brazil that fuses grains together permanently. It is vanishingly rare — the kind of find a quarry sees once in a generation. Smooth, dense, faintly cool to the touch. A bright light across deep blue with white wave banding deepens it, the way the sea looks different depending on how the sun falls across it. Chosen most often for feature walls, tabletops, and backlit panels, where its character has the space to be the whole point of the room.
