Chalcedony coloured by iron oxide, warmed to a translucent orange-red the ancient world once carved into seals and amulets for the exact quality it still holds today — light passing through it, not merely reflecting off it. It is scarce enough to be spoken of before it is seen. Warm-toned even in appearance, though cool and dense to the touch. Under bright light, warm orange-red translucent agate deepens into something closer to embers than paint. Chosen most often for backlit panels and bar fronts, where its character has the space to be the whole point of the room.
