Quartzite

This began as sand, compacted into sandstone, then subjected to the kind of heat and pressure near Brazil that fuses grains together permanently. It is the kind of material a quarry mentions only once it is already gone. Smooth and dense underhand. A bright light drawn across amber, blue and rust flowing bands moves like something is glowing just beneath the surface, not simply sitting on top of it. At home on backlit panels and statement islands, exactly where a room asks to be noticed rather than merely completed.
