Lapis Lazuli

Semi-Precious Stone

Drawn from the same Badakhshan seams that supplied ultramarine pigment to Egyptian pharaohs and Renaissance painters alike — its blue is lazurite, and its gold flecks are the pyrite trapped within it. It is rare enough that owning it is closer to inheritance than purchase. Cool at first touch, warming slightly the longer a hand rests on it. Under bright light, deep ultramarine with gold pyrite flecks catches and holds a warm glow, the way firelight settles into old wood. Belongs on backlit panels, tabletops, and inlay — the kind of application that gives a material like this room to be seen properly.
