There are stones. And then there is Nero Portoro Macchia Larga — not quarried so much as discovered, like a secret the earth had been keeping since before anyone was watching. Millions of years ago, ordinary limestone in Liguria, Italy found itself trapped beneath heat and pressure it could not resist. It did not stay limestone. It recrystallised, densified, and became something else entirely — one mineral quietly replaced by another, one grain at a time. What it reveals, once cut and polished, is jet black with wide unbroken gold macchia — black the way the deep ocean is black. Only a handful of blocks like this surface in any given year. Once they're gone, this exact pattern disappears with them — reserved for bar fronts, lift lobbies, or feature walls, the kind of surface a room is built around, not added to.
