Begins as blue asbestos fibre, later infiltrated and replaced, strand by strand, by silica — the golden flash that results is light catching a structure that, strictly, shouldn't still exist. It is so scarce that its arrival, not its price, is what collectors track. It has a quiet warmth to the touch, unusual for stone. Lit well, chatoyant gold-brown fibrous flash takes on the exact colour of late afternoon light, held permanently in place. Chosen most often for bar fronts and backlit panels, where its character has the space to be the whole point of the room.
